Portland Wheelers provides free consulting, assistance and training to groups and organizations looking to start their own version of a wheelers program. This past year we worked with Age Friendly Saco assisting them in starting up a program in collaboration with Saco Main Street. The Saco Cycles Adaptive Bike Program will be using chats from Van Ramm. The chats are similar to our trikes but have a two person bench seat in front and a canopy. They will be giving rides in and around Saco.
We have been lending guidance to a group Downeast who are well into their planning. They will be purchasing one of our trikes to be used in a pilot program starting in Spring 2022. Stay tuned for more information on this group and the very exciting program they will have.
A small church program in Indiana using a single trike caught the eye of a woman now living in Wilmington North Carolina. She contacted Portland Wheelers and we are now fully engaged in assisting her starting a new nonprofit organization to provide a wheeler type program in the Wilmington area.
Portland Wheelers initially assisted a group from Sequim Washington to start a wheeler program back in 2018. We continue to exchange information with the Sequim Wheelers, everything from questions about fundraising and finances, recruiting volunteers and board members, training, COVID protocols, to overall operations.
