Volunteers
Volunteers are the heart of Portland Wheelers.
They come to Portland Wheelers from many walks of life. Some have seen our trikes out on the roads and thought, “That is so cool, I want to do that!” while others are passionate about biking and want to be sure everyone has the opportunity to share in this joy. One thing most volunteers have in common is the desire to give back, or pay it forward.
Pilots – Pilots are trained by us to pedal our trikes and interact one-on-one with our wheelers. Our pilots come from a wide spectrum of backgrounds; all are confident and experienced bicyclists. Learn more about the role of pilots.
Safeties – Safeties are trained by us to ride their own bikes in the wheeler pod and interact with our pilots to assure the safety of our wheelers. Learn more about the role of safeties.
Off-bike and Administrative Volunteers – In this volunteer-led organization, volunteers manage many of our off-bike and administrative tasks: maintaining our trikes and equipment, fundraising, organizing events, updating our social media and website, publishing our newsletter, and more.
Board of Directors – Members of our Board of Directors volunteer their time to oversee daily operations and plan for the future of the organization.
