Biking is for EveryBODY

Portland Wheelers, a nonprofit committed to combatting social isolation through their volunteer-pedaled adapted trikes, is proud to announce a creative collaboration promoting inclusive outdoor recreation. The organization has partnered with Fairfield-based artist Mandi Weirdmore to design exclusive apparel featuring the slogan “Biking is for everyBODY.” Partnering with Portland adventure and active wear retailer, Nomads, the project supports the work of Portland Wheelers while recognizing the many ways people can share in the activity of cycling. As an artist living with a disability, Weirdmore’s design offers an authentic celebration of inclusive outdoor recreation.

“We are excited to share, and wear, this impactful design created by a Maine artist who shares our commitment to inclusion,” says Pete Ryan, Executive Director of Portland Wheelers. “Mandi’s artwork so perfectly illustrates that while we may all have different ways to come to it, the shared joy of biking with friends belongs to everyone regardless of age or ability.”

“This piece represents the connection that comes with biking and the disability community. We may all have different needs, but together we are at peace,” says artist Mandi Weirdmore.

Nomads (Nomads Adventure and Active Wear) is an independent, woman-owned clothing store located at 100 Commercial St in Portland’s Old Port, specializing in functional, stylish, and sustainable apparel for travel, yoga, and outdoor activities.

Nomads owner, Hannah Wolken, shares, “To me, biking is one of the best ways to get outside and see the world around you- whether it’s exploring the woods, playing in the snow, or winding down small roads to explore the countryside. I believe everyone should have the opportunity to explore the world in this way- regardless of their gender, body, or capability.

The online store for Biking is for EveryBODY merch is open from March 1 to March 15 and can be accessed here.
