We are thrilled to announce that Peter Ryan has stepped into the role of Executive Director at Portland Wheelers.

If you know Pete, you have likely experienced his passion, energy, and deep commitment to our mission. Pete has been part of Portland Wheelers for five years, beginning as a transporter and steadily taking on expanded leadership as he helped refine and strengthen our operations. Before joining us, he spent a decade in radio—developing the communication skills and community presence that serve him so well—followed by work in operations and logistics.

A Maine native who grew up outside Farmington and now lives in South Portland, Pete is driven by a genuine desire to give back to the community he calls home. He often shares how much Portland Wheelers means to him, saying:

“Portland Wheelers has changed my life, transforming me into a passionate advocate for accessibility. I have immense respect and appreciation for our volunteers and our Wheelers, whose spirit and enthusiasm inspire me every day. It is an honor to serve this community, and I look forward to leading the organization into its next chapter.”

This transition is a natural next step for both Pete and Portland Wheelers. He is excited to continue expanding our mission of providing free, accessible bike rides to people who are unable to ride on their own, while exploring new ways to reach more riders and communities throughout the region.

Pete sees Portland Wheelers not only as a provider of joyful outdoor experiences but as an essential community service that enhances well-being, connection, and belonging for riders and their families.

We are also pleased to share that Kiersten Ellis will continue in her role as Program Coordinator, ensuring continuity and strong support for our riders, volunteers, and community partners.
